The Tasmanian Journals and Papers of George Augustus Robinson 1829 – 1834.
This monumental and controversial work has been widely recognised as an icon of colonial and post-colonial culture, an often uncomfortable meeting place between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples. Friendly Mission is an account of travels and encounters with the first Tasmanians as told by an Englishman of humble origins who took part in one of the most complex roles in colonial Van Dieman’s Land.
Edited by NJB Plomley this 2008 edition contains material not included in the 1966 edition together with an extensive new index.
